Take your time. Nothing fits as well as this statement in this country of Morocco!
Wait.
And wait again. But it doesn't feel like waiting. It is an invitation to be present. An invitation to take the time you need.
Coming from a fast-moving time and arriving in a country where time plays a different role feels so good. Everything just takes time. Nothing moves faster than time and everything has its right time.
Intoxicated by life
Being intoxicated by life means breathing the air of adventure every moment. The art is knowing when to stick with it and live the power of your intuition and vision and when it is time to relax.
Here in the south of Morocco at over 40 degrees, life begins when the sun goes down. During the day almost everyone hangs out in some corner and dozes.
Me too!
The heat sets the pace of the day.
I rest a lot.
There is little distraction. Actually not at all. I am thrown back on myself and surrender to what is around me.
I could have continued to be in Sicily, with my family, the sea and the ice cream barrel. But my decision to stay longer in this country was an intuitive one. And a heartfelt decision. As an eternal doer and too often driven person who is afraid of missing out on something, this is the best cure for me!
I am looked after, cared for and left in peace.
So much calm begins to spread within me because there is not much to distract me.
I have everything I need. Most importantly, I have time!
Paring down to little ignites my spirit.
The words in my head want to come out! I write a lot. I sometimes wake up and have downloads.
Often I can't write as quickly as the ideas come.
I have understood. Everything I need is there. Nothing can be done.
Now it's time to put what we have understood into reality.
I'm doing this really well!
I observe my thoughts, my actions.
Fully aware. Check them for accuracy. What is reality? What is my reality?
The treasure of the dusty place in the middle of nowhere
Arriving here in the Sahara always feels like the end of the world.
We arrive as the sun is setting, sand dust is in the air, the sky is overcast.
The streets are crooked and crooked.
Almost all the houses are stuck under construction, unfinished. Time has stopped here.
Of course I could go to one of the many luxury hotels, with a swimming pool and everything beautiful and magical.
I know of some very nice establishments outside of the city.
So why here of all places?
Because it's the people here at Dar Mhamid that I value so much!
The owner's name is Omar and he is one of the finest and most honest people I have met. I feel at home with everyone else who works here. I am cooked according to my wishes and according to my time.
It is also the many good conversations that inspire my stay spiritually and the open-heartedness of the hosts that nourish my heart. I have been coming to Omar's small riad since 2018. It is a great starting point for the Festival des Nomades, which takes place in the center of the city and is within walking distance of the small riad.
I always meet very interesting people from all over the world here. A year ago I met Maddo here in the Riad. He is a very good friend of Omar and we have also become friends. I quickly decided that I my trips to the desert . This was the best decision I had made! We have been working together ever since. Maddo and his team Cameltrails specialize in accompanying people into the desert.
I wrote a detailed travel report as a blog article about the trip in March 2023 , which touched many people very much.
The town of M'hamid El Ghizlane is originally an oasis town.
Not long ago, M'hamid El Ghizlane was an oasis, an oasis of peace for nomads.
There is a resilient clay architecture that provides suitable protection from inclement weather such as sandstorms. Drought, drought and borders have taken their toll on the wandering life of most nomads. Source: Excerpt from the Internet
Doing nothing is the art of the wise
This sentence came to mind recently.
The art is knowing when to stick with it and live the power of your intuition and vision and when it is time to relax.
Sometimes I feel driven by myself. By ambition, by desperate desire and by my impatience.
What we need right now:
The inner silence.
Listening to the heartbeat.
To feel the wind on your skin.
Observe the thoughts.
This is meditation.
This is what lies behind the Moroccans' request: Take your time, the wisdom of every life.
Because our world constantly craves to be busy.
We hardly know the value of boredom anymore. A long while without looking at our smartphone or burying our nose in a book.
What I practice here is awareness and constant contact with myself and my body.
How does my breathing flow?
Where are my thoughts galloping to?
What do I feel?
Why do I feel this way?
However, I have to say that the use of cell phones is also very popular.
To find out more and to switch off.
But also often to listen to music. Because music is an important part of the lives of Moroccans.
Trips to the desert are a blessing for everyone. Even for the locals!
