Why I Love Desert Travel With Women

Hiking in the Sahara

From the longing for silence

A journey begins with longing. It usually comes insidiously or is suddenly there.

Eckhard Tolle once said: When you lose touch with inner stillness, you lose touch with yourself.

That's what a desert journey is all about .
Getting in touch with yourself again. A week to get out of the sensory overload of our familiar world and into your greatest adventure, the encounter with you!

Heed the call of the desert

When the desert calls, there is a need for change, for stillness. It is the call of the soul that is particularly noticeable in times of personal upheaval. The desert is calling you to finally give your hurt, repressed part the necessary attention. She invites you to let go of the old and used up and to make you sensitive again to the magic, your radiance and your love of life. True luxury lies in the simple things. The rhythms of Africa, the blues of the Sahara - every moment is magic. She transmits. Everything that no longer belongs to you dissolves. Step by step in this endless expanse of sand-colored and gentle hills to the horizon.

But first: the way is the goal

Yalla, here we go. A group of women decided to go through the desert with the nomads and me and embark on an adventure.

Just sitting on a camel and watching the world rocking from so high up is an experience! Before we start, we first put on a desert outfit. Winds sometimes pick up in the Sahara and we need a cloth that is at least 5 to 9 meters long to protect us from wind and sand.

Camel guide and the camels

From now on there are no more distractions. With our caravan of women, men, the nomads of the desert, tents, cooking pots, food and camels, we go for 6 days into the heart of the Sahara, where we move from place to place and visibly dissolve fears and we open ourselves to new ideas and visions in life.

Rituals provide support and help us to acquire new habits.

Yoga in the desert

The wonderful women's time begins.
From now on, exercises will accompany us every day for a week, leading us to our inner strength resources and our physical and mental connection. All the secrets of female power lie in the pelvis. Too often this access to the womb is blocked! Through the exercises of mindful walking, breathing, yoga, Qi Gong and the dance into femininity , we come into our primal feminine archaic power. These are my magic tools with which I accompany desert retreats.
The purpose of the dance into femininity is to feel completely comfortable in your own body again:
When the woman experiences her shine, her magic has developed a magnetic attraction that enchants.

Her inner queen is awakening and she is beginning to feel and act more and more like this. She knows how to set boundaries. She is relaxed and cheerful and her charisma is enormous! That's what we want to strengthen here in our women's group in the desert.
On all levels.
Inside and outside. This development takes some time and the right practice set. Development always requires patience and trust!

Dear patience, a virtue that desert people have by nature.

We can learn so much from them!
Because it's not her head that's guiding her.
It is their prudence, their understanding of adapting to the situation that can change at any time in this imposing and untameable nature. Sometimes a sandstorm comes and then we have to wait.

It is said that the nomads feel the direction in the soles of their feet.

On a desert trip I have seen some struggle with their ego. Including mine!

A nomad once asked someone: Do you believe in God?
No! said the man.
The nomad answered:
If you are wandering through the desert and have no water, believe me, either God speaks to you or you to God.

The desert has always been a place for visionaries

We ride camels or walk. We have water for drinking and washing with us. Half a liter is enough for me to wash and feel completely clean! We learn to live with so little and pay attention to the little things.

As the moon rises, the stars take their place in the sky, the drums start beating and we connect to the rhythm of Africa!

Berbers with their drums and dances

Spirituality is so connected to the desert

The desert heals us.
It heals our sickening and rigid ideas of HOW something should be, opens our horizons and shows us a new way. Sometimes uncomfortable, sometimes demanding. Here is space for insights, processes, purification and connection, community.

  • We pay attention to the desert and it helps us to feel.
  • Mindfulness meditation with every step. Preferably barefoot.
  • When there's nothing left to distract you, it's just you.
  • Who are you?
  • What are your thoughts?
  • What prevents you from boldly going your own way?

Magic, energy, meditation and inner glow

I love traveling through the desert with women because here we can have an "intimate space" and strengthen each other.

The experience of traveling through the desert in a caravan with the authentic desert sons of the Sahara
is an adventure for everyone and will remain unforgettable!
By experiencing their way of life, we learn what we are so longing for ....

Amenokal Alhavi wrote about the wisdom of his people, the desert dwellers of Africa.
Here is a small excerpt that I think describes exactly what we are looking for on the path to happiness:

as soon as you sit down, you get up again.
You chew the first bite and already think about the end of your meal.
You start and want to be at your destination.
You know only the haste and not the value of waiting.

How do you want to enjoy, contemplate and understand in peace?

The desert hides a treasure

Camel is waiting for you

In the morning, before the sun rises and the sand still has the coolness of the night, we sit on a sand hill and carefully watch the sun rise on the horizon.

A natural spectacle. Look at your head cinema with the baggage you brought with you in this wonderful big desert inspiration space.

Connect with the vastness of the landscape and your heart. After the meditation we give our body attention to grounding, energy and the sacred movements of femininity.

Then happy breakfast time.
We plowed wild arugula along the way, which we ate with cream cheese, tomatoes and fresh bread baked in the hot sand and ash.
While we sit on a blanket on the floor and still drink Nescafé or a tea, our caring companions pack everything back onto the camels before our caravan moves on, only to unload everything from the camels again in a few hours, make tea and cook lunch .

I used to think, where is the goal? When are we arriving? Until I finally understood that we had already reached our goal...

I take off my shoes again, wrap myself in my 9 meter long cloth and decide to walk today. Walk in silence for a few hours in the morning, feel the earth and the sand. Being barefoot is such a powerful grounding . My horizon is expanding day by day. It's getting lighter and lighter. Euphoria is spreading, my words are galloping in my diary! ideas emerge. Visions, feelings of happiness! When something is empty, something can fill up.

can you feel the earth

Can you trust your steps

New paths are only created by walking them.

We don't know where the new paths will lead us. It takes courage to find your own truth. But for me it's worth it. At the end of my time here on beautiful earth, I would like to be able to say: YES, I lived everything, YES, I gave myself, YES, I was really brave !

In my job, I see myself as a companion. A companion who helps people with physical and consciousness exercises, wisdom and 30 years of professional experience:

  • to recognize their potential
  • to develop the ability to love and zest for life,
  • would like to encourage people to turn their stumbling blocks into lucky stones!

After the adventure

When, after our desert adventure, we cuddle up in bed for the first time, freshly showered, we will dream of this intensive time together. A few more days in the riad on the edge of the desert, relaxation and hammam, talks, laughter, a bit of culture on the way and time to digest before we drive back to Marrakech airport via the Atlas.

Everyone's eyes are shining... And I'm just happy! Happy and grateful for this time together as a woman in the Sahara! It's time for magic!

Happy and infinitely grateful!

I call my desert journeys longing for origin. Because that's what it is for me! The longing for a happy existence and the acquisition of a deep trust that everything is right the way it is! And quite simply it is like that

  • Sleep under the starry sky,
  • walking on the sand, riding camels,
  • eat on carpets
  • and dance by the fire
  • fills me with an immense childlike joy and brings me to "my origin".
